Country Fete Wedding at BrinsopPosted on Tue 09 Sep, 2014, by Amanda Ingham

What we’ve tried to create at Brinsop is a place where people can have a quintessentially English holiday in the countryside. We encourage our guests to enjoy the woodland walks and marked trails across the estate. We make it easy for them to relax on the lawns by the moat and soak up the peace and quiet. And what is so fantastic about the manor house and the magic of Brinsop is its versatility and flexibility not only of the accommodation, but also the party rooms and outdoor spaces as well.

With summer almost over the country fete season is at an end and organisers’ thoughts are turning to planning for next year’s fetes across the UK. And whilst it is highly unlikely we would host a country fete here at Brinsop, it is very likely we host a country fete wedding!

Bunting and lots of it is essential for the theme and a really lovely idea is to have all the guests bring a length that they’ve either made themselves, (borrowed or old) but if that’s not possible then of course a new strip of bunting would work really well too.  And if a colour scheme is chosen and all the bunting is the same colour, it will be stunning.

Essential for country fetes are huge pots and vases of country flowers, both wild flowers and home grown British flowers all in glorious technicolour with tons of them overflowing their vases or jam jars tied with pretty ribbons.  Of course there are lots of wild flowers across the estate, but for the finest selection of home grown, we’d recommend a look at the Great British Florist, a local Herefordshire company. Your flowers will look as if they have been gathered from a garden and suit the rustic country fete theme really well.

Country fete weddings could have a variety of ‘stalls’ set up to entertain the friends and families who are coming together to celebrate the wedding. From the simple to the elaborate we can help come up with ideas as well as suppliers of things to do that might include archery or clay pigeon shooting (both at £50 per head) or at the other end of the scale, there could be a coconut shy, pin the tail on the donkey, daisy chain making, maypole dancing, face painting, guess the number of sweets in a jar and perhaps a hog roast. We know someone who runs dance workshops - maybe they could be persuaded to come and deliver a workshop on English country dancing on the lawns! The gorgeous piece of kit in the photo comes from The Very Vintage Hire Company

Weddings favours are big business these days and for a rustic, country fete theme there are lots of choices from small pots of homemade jams or fudge beautifully labelled up through to little hessian sacks of sweeties or other goodies, or even miniature horseshoes so everyone gets to share their luck! There are pages and pages (or should that be boards and boards) of inspiration on Pinterest and we’ve started one for wedding favour ideas for Brinsop too.

And then there is the table. We have our wonderful long table in the Banqueting Hall or if you prefer smaller round tables we can provide those instead and dressing the tables for a country or village fete themed wedding gives an opportunity to use hessian and straw as well as more gingham and more ribbons and more bunting. Although Jonathan might have something to say about a bale of straw up in the Banqueting Hall!
