Your wedding theme sets the tone for your big day, determining every stylistic decision you make. With so many possible options, from romantic to modern, it can be easy to feel a little overwhelmed. But there’s no need to feel that way.
After all, once you’ve decided your styling, the rest of your planning should slot easily into place. And once you have even a kernel of an idea, you can develop and run with it.
If you don’t know where to begin, look for ideas on social media and in wedding magazines or websites. And don’t be scared to talk to anyone who you think may be able to help, from industry insiders and influencers to friends who’ve already tied the knot, most of whom will gladly share their knowledge and expertise. After all, you don’t have to imitate them completely.
Other inspiration could come from the time of year of your celebration, the likely weather on the day, a particular decade or a historical era that’s especially meaningful to you.
Finally, you could take a couple of ideas and combine elements of each to create a theme that’s unique, distinctive and special to you.
Ideas for your wedding theme
Rustic
Keep it rural and homely with hay bales, twine and wood. Clearly, this concept will suit a barn-style building and a countryside venue. If you’re going for this theme, our rustic Knot Barn is the perfect place to get hitched, combining a bucolic feel with all mod cons, and surrounded by stunning rural views.
Bohemian
Does this word epitomise your personal style? Keep it cool and carefree, with floor cushions, decorative pillows, hanging macramé decorations and oriental rugs. Brinsop Court offers the perfect location for this theme with its extensive woodland and the chance to have an outdoor ceremony on our cricket pitch lawn, complete with an ancient cedar tree which makes the perfect feature in your wedding photos.
Equally, our Wordsworth Lawn, with the moat on three sides, offers a fabulous panorama over hills and woodland.
Regency
If you love all things Bridgerton, this one’s for you. You’ll need gorgeous gowns, lavish linens and florals aplenty; this style isn’t one you want to do by halves. At Brinsop Court, our luxury manor house venue provides the perfect location for this type of theme.
Romantic
If this kind of style does it for you, opt for soft shades, subtle lighting and plenty of floral displays. You could even consider a flower wall, exquisite calligraphy, pastel shades, sheer fabrics, lace and fairy lights. You can incorporate these ideas in your wedding dress and as part of your overall décor.
Eco-friendly
If the environment has a strong significance for you, there are many ways to have a planet-friendly celebration. Think biodegradable confetti, plants rather than flowers as table decorations and recycled wedding stationery. Finally, an outdoor venue will mean you’re not consuming as much energy, plus you can choose to have a sumptuous cold buffet that doesn’t involve cooking anything. Have your ceremony and after-party in the same venue and cut down on guest travel.
Art Deco
This is a classic one for Jazz Agefans. Think in terms of a lavish Great Gatsby-style party and splurge on ornate gold and elaborate fonts for the invites, with lots of geometric shapes, sharp lines and plenty of sparkle. Don’t stint on the glitz and glamour, and give more than a nod to vintage allure.
