There are so many great shopping opportunities in Herefordshire in December which of course is the season for shopping. It is unlikely that you would come to Herefordshire for the shopping, but we all have a bit of shopping to do in the run up to Christmas and there are some great seasonal pop up shopping opportunities as well as the regular places to visit in December. Of course if you are self-catering it is great to go out shopping and try out the different places for snacks, lunches and teas.

Not far from Brinsop is Hampton Court Castle which has it’s an annual Christmas Fair over three days from tomorrow, 6th to 8th December.  The following weekend, Leominster has a Victorian Christmas Fair in and around Corn Square and there is a video on You Tube which gives a flavour of it.

Or head over to Ledbury for the Guild of Herefordshire Craftsmen’s Christmas Show which runs from 23rd November through to 11th December.  With the crowds safely elsewhere at vast, out of town shopping malls and traffic and parking issues in large towns and cities - it’s a relief to be able to wander up the stairs past twinkling lights into a calm oasis with unique but affordable gifts.

In Hereford city centre at the Shire Hall on Saturday 7th December there is a jamboree of natural, homemade and inspiring gifts, the perfect place for finding unique Christmas presents.

On Monday 9th there is a Truffle Market in High Town, Hereford – not the chocolate kind, but local companies who are part of the Truffle Special Offers scheme.

On 11th December, Castle House is hosting an evening of shopping from 4.00pm with a diverse selection of gifts to choose from and you can pre-order your supper and they will call you when it’s ready!

On 12th and 13th from 9 to 4, there is another Victorian Christmas Market, this time in Hereford’s High Town. All the traders dress up in Victorian costume and shoppers are entertained by jugglers and wandering minstrels.

If you still have shopping to do by 14th December, there can be no nicer setting than Hereford Cathedral that has a Carols for Shoppers service at 12, and over 30 stalls open from 10 to 2. Or spend the following day (15th) enjoying a vintage street fair in Hereford’s High Town.

Other fun places to go shopping locally that won’t be too crowded are the National Trust shop at Queenswood which is less than 10 miles from Brinsop or Oakchurch Farm Shop (which is so much more than just a farm shop) at Staunton on Wye or the Hop Pocket Shopping Village at Bishop’s Frome. Locals will have their personal favourites, but if you don’t know the area these are all worth a visit for local crafts, produce and seasonal gifts.
