Something Old Something NewPosted on Thu 03 Jul, 2014, by Amanda Ingham

We are thinking weddings this week, and the familiar saying, something old, something new, something borrowed something blue, a silver sixpence in your shoe.

These are the four objects that a bride will add to her wedding outfit or carry with her for luck. They are often small tokens of love that mums, sisters, aunts and grandmothers have given to the bride and each represents something. The old represents continuity, the new is optimism for the future, the borrowed symbolises happiness and blue stands for purity, love and fidelity. The sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity.

If brides coming to Brinsop Court for their wedding have forgotten any of these things, we are sure we can help!  We are spoiled for choice with old things - we have a set of enormous keys which could be carried although it might make sense to separate them and just carry one as they are incredibly heavy! The key to the front door of Tirrells is huge and is still in use, so that might be an option.  Ignoring that the rhyme relates to objects, something old is Brinsop Court Manor House itself, which in part dates back to the 14th century and the banqueting hall, where you will most likely party, is in the oldest party of the building.

Something new is our recently launched bespoke wedding website which we are really pleased with and the e-brochure that can be downloaded from it will give lots of ideas about how a wedding works at Brinsop.

Something borrowed is back to the building really, as it is yours for the time you are here and the team ensure that we are available without being intrusive, so you really can feel like the lords and ladies of the manor.  Maybe something borrowed could also be the guests who put aside their routine lives and borrow time to join in with the wedding celebrations.

Something blue will depend on the time of year – blue skies in summer, blue flowers in spring, blue of the moat's water, blue of the lights in winter.... getting fanciful now!

If you are planning a wedding and haven’t sorted out your venue yet, give us a call to book a venue visit and come and see us soon.
