Tis the Season Posted on Mon 03 Dec, 2012, by Amanda Ingham

Like many places at this time of year, there are a host of Christmas markets and fairs to go to and Herefordshire is no different. There is a variety to choose from and if you stay at Brinsop Court Estate in December you can be sure to find one close by.

Here are the best of them:

Tenbury Wells’ Mistletoe Festival takes place this year on Saturday, 1st December. Not strictly in Herefordshire, Tenbury Wells is only 40 minutes from Brinsop Court Estate and easy to find. There is a procession through the town in the afternoon culminating in the crowning of the Mistletoe Queen, truly a unique experience.

During the second weekend in December, visitors can shop at the very popular Leominster Victorian Market on the Saturday. Leominster doesn't have to make much effort to ensure that shoppers feel as though they have been catapulted back to the Victorian age! Antique shops abound and the market traders make a lot of effort with their costumes.

The castle is decorated beautifully for Christmas and there are huge log fires in the main rooms. Mince pies and carol singing complete the Christmas fantasy.

During week three Hereford’s High Town has a market every day of the week beginning on Monday, 10th December with the “Truffle” Market. Truffle is a relatively new initiative in Herefordshire where retailers and service providers offer “treats” to card holders. Charities market is on the Tuesday and other markets that week include Victorian and French markets as well as the traditional farmers market. Of course, the Butter Market is open every day for bargains and Christmas goodies.

With over 30 stalls of local crafts, produce and seasonal gifts, there are also carols for shoppers at noon and coffee and mince pies available throughout the day. The atmosphere is brilliant and many of the locals finish their Christmas shopping there whilst catching up with friends and neighbours.
