When and where did you get engaged?
Engaged at Lake Windermere, the Lake District, on Bethan’s birthday, September 8, 2016.
How and why did you choose Brinsop Court?
We were looking for a venue with character and somewhere which was impressive, would give us fantastic photos come rain or shine and that was Brinsop. Every single room was gorgeous and we were blown away by the banqueting hall and the beautiful gardens around the property. From start to finish the team was there to answer any questions and to hep us bing our vision to life and that really did make the process so much easier.
How long did it take to plan the wedding?
Roughly 18 months. We wanted to create as much as we could be ourselves to give it a personal and vintage touch.
Was there inspiration or theme for your wedding?
We decided from the beginning we wold love to get married in a church followed by a reception at a big house with gardens. Something which was very elegant but also homely, and Brinsop gave us that. We wanted country blooms, beams and big garden areas to celebrate. The estate is absolutely stunning, but also has character and still feels like a home.
What was your first dance song?
Real Love by Tom Odell
What was your favourite part of the day?
Our marriage service at St Mary’s was of course the most significant part of our day. Our favourite moments from our time at Brinsop Court was celebrating with friends and family on the lawns in the sunshine with our musician Owen H playing in the background, followed by the courtyard sparklers after sunset. I (Bethan) also loved getting ready with my bridesmaids and adding the final touches of my look with my Mam in the absolutely beautiful French bedroom.
Did everything go to plan?
Yes, it did. We were surprised by how smoothly everything went. We thought there may be one or two little things that may be forgotten or not go completely to plan, or as we had imagined, but the day was absolutely perfect. We could not have asked for anything better. The sun was shining, the venue was perfection and the help we had on offer from the Brinsop team was impeccable.
What advice would you give anyone planning their big day?
It is so easy to get caught up in the tiny little details or become stressed over making big decisions while planning the most special day of your life. But try to take a step back if or when you do become overwhelmed and remember the reason you are doing all of it and imagine the beautiful day you will enjoy, because it is over before you know it.
We enjoyed a long engagement where we were able to be creative and savour moments but we still became a little frazzled at times. But it was all worth it. Our day was incredible and exactly what we wanted. We stuck to our guns on the things which mattered the most to us – plus we are very fortunate and have a very supportive family! But the day is over in a blink, so try to enjoy and soak up every little bit of the process.
Where did you spend your Honeymoon?
The coast of California, followed by a few days in West Hollywood and then four days in New York.
